Roots and Circuits was born out of personal experience. Recently, in our City, we witnessed schools in our district being forced to shut down due to a lack of funding. Entire campuses closed their doors, not because there weren’t bright, motivated students inside them, but because budgets simply couldn’t sustain their operations. We saw how these closures disrupted not only education but also students' lives. Opportunities to explore STEM, pursue passions, or gain critical skills were stripped away, and these losses can result in life-changing consequences for children's education.
What began as a local crisis opened our eyes to a much larger issue. All across the country and around the globe, millions of students in under-resourced communities face the same obstacles. Where you live and the amount of money your community has should not determine whether you get to experience hands-on science, learn to code, build an engineering project, or imagine a career in STEM.
That’s why we founded Roots and Circuits: to level the playing field. We are building a nonprofit that brings free, engaging, and empowering STEM education to underrepresented communities. Starting right here in Lubbock, we aim to create equal opportunities for students who might otherwise be left behind and eventually scale our programs to reach young people across the country and the world.
Because talent is everywhere. Opportunity should be too.
